Massacre at Sand Creek
On November 29, 1864, Colonel Chivington lead volunteers and soldiers into a peaceful Indian camp at Sand Creek, killing 105 Indian women and children and 28 men, many standing together under a U.S. flag and a white flag of truce. Afterward, the marauders mutilated the corpses and dangled severed body parts from their saddles and hats. The event is considered a major battle on the Civil War
